Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am extremely excited to be able to welcome you to my Bachelorprojekt! This recital gives me the opportunity to touch on what I personally consider the rather underrated collaboration between the composer Igor Stravinsky and the violinist Samuel Dushkin. Dushkin’s involvement in Stravinsky’s creative direction paved the way for many, if not most, of the composer’s repertoire and transcriptions for violin as a solo instrument.
To pay homage to Stravinsky, both as a composer and as a pianist, as well as Dushkin as a violinist, we will be playing a selection of transcriptions:
Igor Stravinsky: Suite Italienne, for violin and piano (after the ballet Pulcinella, transcribed with S. Dushkin)
Igor Stravinsky: Divertimento, for violin and piano (after the ballet The Fairy’s Kiss/Le Baiser de la Fee, transcribed with S. Dushkin)
Igor Stravinsky: Danse Russe, for violin and piano (after the ballet Petruschka, transcribed with S. Dushkin)
Elena Kawazu, Violine
Stefka Perifanova, Klavier
The recital will take place at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Kammermusiksaal 1, Ebene 5.
Very special thanks to my wonderful professor Ilya Gringolts for all the guidance and advice given to me throughout my Bachelor studies. Another thank you goes to my Theorieschwerpunkt teacher Andreas Nick, who developed my interest in Stravinsky as a composer and musician and played a major factor in me choosing this topic for my final project.
I look forward to presenting the program and hopefully seeing some of you there!
