Embodied Practices with Julie Martin

It can often be a struggle to be a yoga practitioner and fully understand how something we do on our mats or meditation cushions can be embraced in every moment of our lives. The question is how do we truly embody the practices and all they encompass? Our bodies are containers for all our thoughts, emotions, patterns and histories. When we can look at a cellular level we understand that there is nothing in us that is separate or un-affected by what we do, think, eat, feel.
Using the practices as means to tune into this is where we start a fully embodied relationship with yoga and ourselves.

Using Julie’s unique form of asana and movement, somatic meditation, breath work and awareness exercises the process of “doing” the practice will transform to the state being, fully present with the sense of aliveness we are looking for. These sessions will be full of curiosity and enquiry, pause and presence, stillness and movement. All practitioners welcome.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON 14.00-16.00 (CHF 40)
Brahmani style asana flow practice
Looking into the asana practice as a means to find connection with the present moment we will play with pulses, spirals and waves and then find the ability to pause and remain curious in the stillness before we move on. Starting with a structured sequence, Julie will start to remove boundaries so that through the enquiry of the poses and movement we begin to let our own sequence unfold depending on what feels right in that particular moment. This is how we allow ourselves to embody movement.

FRIDAY EVENING 20.00-22.00 (CHF 40)
Sacred Dance
We are constantly communicating with our bodies. Our gestures, glances, movements are telling stories we may not be aware of. When we cultivate our internal dialogue to find expression in movement, in dance, we have access to our stories to feel them, see them and express them. Through this process we allow ourselves to re-pattern, let go of limiting ideas and grow in our relationship to ourselves and others. Sacred Dance is a movement exploration without limitations. Guided by Julie through different awareness exercises you will find your freedom in movement and let the dance rise from within.

SATURDAY MORNING 8:30 — 10.30 (CHF 40)
Brahmani style asana flow practice
Looking into the asana practice as a means to find connection with the present moment we will play with pulses, spirals and waves and then find the ability to pause and remain curious in the stillness before we move on. Starting with a structured sequence, Julie will start to remove boundaries so that through the enquiry of the poses and movement we begin to let our own sequence unfold depending on what feels right in that particular moment. This is how we allow ourselves to embody movement.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON 13:30-16:30 (CHF 80)
Slow Movement Investigation with Somatic Meditation Practice
We can take a meditation practice into movement that is much slower and more intimate in relationship with our emotions. Instead of learning a sequence we will find a few “shapes” and discover different ways to integrate them based on what feels right. Construction and de-construction on what is useful, what is movement and when does stillness arise without effort. We can embody stillness when the awareness of the container that we occupy is the centre focus. The last part of this session includes a few different styles of somatic (awareness focused) meditation techniques, some laying down, some working more through the breath awareness.

SUNDAY MORNING 10:00-12:00 (CHF 40)
Brahmani style asana flow practice

SUNDAY AFTERNOON 13:00-16:00 (CHF 80)
Bringing It All Together — Embodied
After playing with all the techniques in sequence and in freedom, in movement and in stillness, in enquiry and in witnessing we bring everything together in one last session. This will include finding a pause in the movement, finding space and integration, meditation, breath and joining the philosophy of what these practices really mean in our daily lives. How do we take this off the mat? How do we embody being human?
